[Awareness] Cancer is not always fatal but it sure does hurt

Hey guys,

I'm here to share my story on cancer. When I was younger I did not understand what pain meant. I did not understand what appreciation meant. Furthermore, I did not understand what hurt meant.

Then, it all changed. My grandmother was diagnosed with cervical cancer somewhere between year 2007/2008. I cannot really remember much. In fact, I can't really remember much about my life in those few years. Well, I'm not surprise since most people want to forget something traumatic.

What I do remember though is my mother would cry very often when we visit my grandmother. Sometimes, I see her cry when she's just doing mundane tasks. Sometimes, my mother would cry at any given time of the day, perhaps while thinking of my grandmother.

All I could remember is I would stay over with my grandmother on weekends (since I'm with her on weekdays for school) to take care of her. The grandmother who once, was strong enough to carry me on her back back in kindergarten/primary school is now so frail and fragile. I would bathe her for she couldn't do it herself without help. I would talk to her for she'll need someone to talk to. I would help her with her meals and with each step she takes, each action she struggles with, I will die a little inside.

Then one day, if I'm not mistaken, my grandmother shared with me these exact words, "I didn't want your mother to tell you about my condition". That's all I could remember. What more she said, I wanted to forget. All I know is, this was when I truly understood what love from a grandmother meant.

As I'm typing these words my tears can't help itself from brimming in the sockets of my eyes. It's not something I want to recall. You have no idea how much fear runs through my spine whenever my father tells me, "Your mother is going for a medical check up" or when my mother says, "Your grandmother is not well recently".

By the way, my grandmother survived cancer. She's still alive now and healthy. She's strong and she's my hero.

I love my grandmother very much. She cared for me since I was a little child. She showered me with love like no other. Even till today, she loves me more and never less.

Cherish the people you love and appreciate them while you can. Family is always the most important part of my life. Each of my family are a part of me. I love each and every single one of them and I believe you do as well.

Therefore, I would like to propose a call for action;

In the spirit of lifting the spirits of cancer patients going through post cancer treatment, I was glad to know that AXA AFFIN is collaborating with National Cancer Society Malaysia where AXA AFFIN will fund one day daycare to one patient for every outreach achieved among the blogging community. To us, one day may be a meager, but to those in need, it's a gift that they would cherish forever.

If you have had an experience with someone diagnosed with cancer, do share. Even if you have not had such a grueling experience, share what you know about cancer. It could be about symptoms, treatments, preventions etc. Also, once you wrote your article do e-mail the link to richard.moh@lionandlion.com. Thank you.

With love,

Welcoming new year; 2013

The year 2012 is coming to an end! As usual, people are excited to talk about their new year resolutions and reflection on the past year. To join in the excitement, there are quite a number of things I am grateful for in year 2012.

I'm grateful list

#1 My family

Families are not perfect. However, it is these imperfections that makes the whole perfection. We fight, cry, disappoint and etc but at the end of the day, family is always family.

#2 My love

"I don't believe in love at first sight" - That is the truth. For me, love is like women. Something that you can never understand no matter how hard you try. In year 2012, I think we have went through one of the most times of ups and downs. However, at least, we are there for each other.

#3 Lessons learned in Monash

Monash is different compared to high school or pre-U. I am grateful that in year 2012, my first year in Monash has opened my eyes to the true meaning of hard work and discipline. You snooze, you loose! University life is the pre-quel of reality. This is the time to adapt ourselves to challenges.

#4 Celebrating another birthday for my grandmother

I am grateful that we celebrated another birthday for my grandmother this year. I wish to celebrate many more birthdays for my grandmother after year 2012. She is the strongest women I know in the family.

#5 My partner-in-crime aka best friend aka Nge-Nge's guardian aka Gabby Ng Chee Kar

The title is self explanatory. Where else can you find someone as awesome as him to be your dearest friend? Al though a long distance relationship is sometimes frustrating but his jungle isn't that bad anymore. Nge Nge keeps him company teehee!

#6 My mama aka Kawee aka Kavidha Natarajan

The title again, need no explanation. If there is one word to summarize someone who is always there to put your mind back to where it belongs, keep you sane, make you laugh, understands you inside out and so much more then please tell me that word. For the time being, I'll assume that word is Kaweeeeeeeeddddhhhaaa. Teehee!

#7 The opportunity to meet Poto, Gabrielle and Imran during a AIESEC conference

#8 Changes

I'm grateful for the changes I have undergone this year. From the unbelievably timid self to a stronger growing women. If I were to mention all the changes I experience in year 2012 it would probably be too long to be published in this virtual space.

#9 ARTENTECH

In year 2012, is the stepping stone towards something big in year 2013. I am grateful that my dear Wei-Lim and annoying child David Nge is in this journey with me. I would have never achieved anything without them.

#10 Close bond with Sri Damai (childhood friends)

I mean, we know each other since 12 years ago. How crazy is that?

#11 onecubetwo

I call it my family minus the blood relationship!

#12 Alive, healthy and still able to write this post

Thank you 2012 for a life changing experience.
Welcome year 2013 for yet another life changing experience!! =)

Girls are thinkers

If you are a girl you are most probably thinking about something right now while reading this post. I am not stereotyping but based on personal experiences, girls are thinkers. As a girl myself, I would not deny the fact that I am thinking at every second of the day be it in the showers or watching television. Sometimes it annoys me to find myself constantly thinking about something.

On the other hand, this is also one reason why girls are more emotional creatures. When you ponder about something for too long it will lead to the negative side of it. Even the most optimistic people will find themselves dwelling on the pessimistic things. Why are girls so complicated? I do not know!

Here is my assumption, girls think too much because of their motherly nature. Because girls are born to be mothers, they tend to think more about everything. Or in other words, they worry too much about every single thing that goes on in their lives. Yes or no?
